How to Take Care of Your Glass Furniture
Having glass furniture at home can make the space look more stylish and spacious, but it’s all a matter of how you maintain it. If you search through the Internet, there are a lot of ways on how you can take care or maintain your furniture at home. Here is a short story that I’d like to share about how we maintained the glass furniture that we have in our house.
Ever since I was a kid, we had this glass table in our living room that is much older than me. My mom said that they bought it when my older brothers were still very young. So, the glass furniture is almost at its thirtieth year with us, and the glass still looks the same as it did before.
My mom has always been too cautious of maintaining our furniture at home, especially furniture with glass surfaces. Here is how she was able to maintain the quality — not just the glass table in our living room but also, all of the glass furniture at home.
1. Wipe it out!
Of course, before anything else, you have to wipe it clean, right? Most people tend to neglect spills on the glass because they’re not aware of the marks that it could give. Beverage spills or any food spills when not wiped out right away will dry up and leave marks on the glass. You can use any microfiber cloth that will easily absorb the spills and the dirt left on the glass. In our case, we use a clean cloth to remove unnecessary spills.
2. The Glass Cleaner
Finding the right person is like finding a suitable glass cleaner for your glass furniture. You can’t just settle for less, right? We’ve tried a lot of glass cleaners and only one stood out best. Take note that not all glass cleaners out there would guarantee a great quality for your glass furniture. So better be careful in picking out your cleaning tools. Make sure you clean your glass furniture everyday to maintain its good condition.
3. Avoid Harmful Objects
At first, this might sound like a caution for children telling them to stay away from pointy objects. But what I’m actually saying is that you should avoid putting pointy and edgy objects on top of the bare glass. One of the things that my mom always taught us about taking care of glass furniture is that, we shouldn’t carelessly put objects that could easily leave nasty scratches on the glass surface. It would look bad for glass furniture to have big and small scratches all over it.
4. Learn to Value
You might think that they are just furniture and that they can be replaced, but it’s still nice to come home to a place where the furniture is pleasing to the eyes. One of the so-called “mommy philosophies” that my mom shared to us was that; you should value the furniture you have in your home because you bought them for a purpose.
I hope this would help in maintaining your glass furniture at home!
